Naas hospital's figure is well below both the HSE national average of 92.3 percent and the target of 90 percent.

Naas General Hospital has recorded the lowest hand hygiene compliance rate among staff in the country, according to HSE figures seen by Kfm.

In the most recent audit - covering October to November 2024 - Naas achieved a compliance rate of just 83.8 percent, the lowest among all hospitals surveyed.

It is also the lowest hand hygeine compliance rate at the hospital since 2018.

The second hospital with the lowest compliance rate was Mayo University Hospital.

Naas Hospital's figure is well below both the HSE national average of 92.3 percent and the target of 90 percent.

It also represents a sharp decline from 98.9 percent in late 2023, when Naas was one of the top performers nationwide.

The HSE says hand hygiene compliance remains a key part of its infection prevention strategy, and hospitals are being supported to improve adherence through training and regular monitoring.

No audit was carried out between the period May to June this year due to "resource issues", according to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.
