The closure, on Sundays, is to allow people to walk and cycle on the route.
Sections of the Canal Road in Naas will remain closed on Sundays until August, 2022.
The closures were first instituted last summer, to allow people to walk and cycle on the route during Level 5 Covid 19 restrictions.
Kildare County Council has confirmed an extension of these 1 day a week closures to vehicular traffic from August 8th, this year, to August 7th, 2022.
The closures are in place on the L6006 (Canal Road, Naas) between its junction with the L2006 (Osberstown Road, Naas) at Osberstown Bridge and its junction with L2996 (Mill Lane, Naas) at Tandy’s Bridge
And on the L2996 (Canal Road, Naas) between its junction with the L6006 (Mill Lane, Naas) at Tandy’s Bridge and its junction with the L29962 (Abbey Road, Naas) at Abbey Bridge.
Alternative Routes:
Traffic moving south will be diverted along the L2006 (Osberstown Road) to the R407 (Sallins Road) and onto the R445 (Main Street, Naas).
Traffic moving north will be diverted along the R445 (Main Street, Naas) onto the R407 (Sallins Road) and onto the L2006 (Osberstown Road).
Diversionary routes will be clearly signposted, as agreed with the Council and An Garda Síochána. Emergency access and restricted local access will be maintained.
