Residents and businesses in Sallins are expressing concern at Kildare County Council's proposal to close the two ramps at the canal bridge in Sallins and remove up to 20 parking spaces.
One ramp leads out to Sherlockstown, while the other leads to Kerdiffstown, where the national school is located.
The proposal is also to remove up to 20 parking spaces along the canal, to ensure safe access for pedestrians and cyclists wishing to use the new Greenway, which has been welcomed by some, including Green Party Cllr. Bob Quinn.
All 7 councillors on the Naas MD have accepted an amendment, proposed by Fianna Fail Cllr. Carmel Kelly to delay the closure of the Kerdiffstown ramp until the management of traffic in the surrounding area is addressed.
Furthermore, there is a commitment from the Council to review the parking bye-laws in the new term.
Local business owners Barry Flanagan (Lock 13) and Sharon Nolan (Nolan Properties) have expressed concern that the closure of the ramps and removal of parking spaces will "negatively affect" their businesses.
