On completion, it will house the databases of the Gardai, Revenue, and two government departments.
The operation of the €30 million state data centre being built in North Kildare will not be out-sourced to a private contractor.
When finished, it contain databases of An Garda Siochana, the Dept. of Social Protection, the Revenue Commissioners and the Dept. of Agriculture.
Clare Sinn Féin TD, Violet Wynne, asked the Minister for Public Expenditure to confirm whether the facility, on completion " will be publicly run and not contracted out to a private provider."
Minister Michael McGrath, in response, says "The proposed new Government Data Centre will be a purpose-built facility owned and operated by Government. It will be built on state land and will be operated and managed by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine on behalf of the state."
The centre is being built on the state's campus in Backweston, in Celbridge.
The site already houses elements of the Dept. of Agriculture, including a laboratory campus.
