Maynooth Conviction Among Series Of Rail Trespass Cases In Kildare

One case in Maynooth led to a conviction, fine, and costs awarded, while others resulted in fixed penalty notices or no further action.

Kildare has recorded a string of rail trespass incidents over the past five years.

The figures, covering 2020 to mid-2025, show trespassing incidents in Maynooth, Hazelhatch, Sallins, and Leixlip (Confey).

One case in Maynooth last year led to a conviction, fine, and costs awarded, while others resulted in fixed penalty notices or no further action.

Nationally, incidents were reported at multiple stations, including Blackrock, Pearse, Connolly, and Clondalkin/Fonthill.

This year alone, 567 incidents were recorded up to the end of April.

Outcomes ranged from fines to unserved summonses and parental notifications in cases involving minors.

The data reveals recurring offences at several locations, with Blackrock and Clondalkin/Fonthill appearing frequently.

In some cases, details could not be verified or were dismissed after legal review.

The data, released to Kildare North Social Democrats TD Aidan Farrelly, includes incidents involving under-18s and people experiencing homelessness, with varied enforcement responses across the network.
