A man has died after his car entered the water in Grangeclare West, Kilmeague, yesterday evening.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m., when a car is believed to have entered the Grand Canal near the Travellers Rest pub.
Emergency services recovered a man from the water.
It's understood that he was a delivery driver and a father of one.
Despite efforts by the National Ambulance Service, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man’s body has since been removed, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
The area has been cordoned off for a forensic examination by the Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the Garda Water Unit.
Access along the canal at this location is currently restricted.
Gardaí are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward.
They are particularly interested in obtaining camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, from the area at the time.
