A man in his 40s has been taken into custody by Gardaí following a series of alarming online posts threatening harm to children, which triggered a security response at a primary school.
In videos seen by Kfm and shared widely on social media, the man appears to make threats to kill children and babies, as well as threats to enter homes.
The incident began when a video surfaced on TikTok in recent days, containing disturbing statements and suggestions of planned violence targeting young children.
After the video circulated, a group of people reportedly arrived at a makeshift campsite near the M4 motorway, dismantling the site used by the man.
The man was not harmed in the confrontation but fled the area shortly afterward.
He was later seen in Tallaght, where he is believed to have posted another video.
Gardai believe the man then traveled on foot from Tallaght to Abbeyleix, County Laois.
During this time, a school in Abbeyleix,, according to the Irish Independent, issued a precautionary notice to parents due to the serious nature of the online threats.
In the alert sent to families this morning, the school reassured parents that all necessary steps were being taken to ensure student and staff safety.
However, it is believed that the man was never near the school.
Gardaí launched an investigation and arrested the man in Abbeyleix.
He is currently being held at a station in the Eastern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
Gardai said there is no ongoing threat to the public, and no further details are being released at this stage.
