Newbridge is set to receive €1.2 million in funding for its new Library & Archives project, following a unanimous agreement by the Municipal District councillors to allocate €300,000 per year over the next four years from Local Property Tax (LPT) revenue.
The funding adds to the €3 million granted by central government last year and a potential €200,000 from insurance related to the old courthouse.
The remaining costs will be covered by development levies and council funding.
To facilitate construction, the current 1970s temporary library on Athgarvan Road will be demolished.
In the interim, Newbridge Library will relocate to Liffey Lodge.
The temporary library is expected to open before the end of 2025, while the Newbridge Library and Archives (URDF) are expected to be completed and reopened in 2027.
