Gardaí are investigating a "shocking" burglary that took place in the Griffin Rath Manor estate in Maynooth, where a homeowner was assaulted, and his vehicle was stolen.
It happened on Saturday morning at around 5.10am.
The incident occurred when two vehicles arrived at a property in the estate, and a group of individuals forcibly entered the house through the back door.
The intruders stole money from the home.
During the burglary, the homeowner confronted the suspects and was struck on the head.
He is recovering at home after receiving medical attention.
The culprits fled the scene in the victim’s car, a black Mercedes-Benz Jeep with a 212 D registration.
The vehicle was later recovered in the Ballyfermot area of Dublin and has been taken for forensic examination.
Gardaí are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
They are particularly interested in speaking with road users who may have dashcam footage from the Maynooth or Ballyfermot areas around the time of the crime.
