The average turnaround rate in Laois or Carlow is 24 weeks.
It's taking an average of 51 weeks for Kildare County Council to re-let vacant homes.
Social Democrats Cllr Aidan Farrelly said it is causing frustration among locals during a housing crisis.
He also questioned the Council about the average cost associated with re-letting – close to €43,000 per property.
According to the Council, the turnaround time is often necessary to complete works on properties.
"If you were in Laois or Carlow, the average turnaround rate is 24 weeks. Meath is 30 weeks. It’s important that we see Kildare moving closer to these timeframes but it’s a question of resources. With the current Government considering a budget, I would call on them to invest in communities," Cllr Farrelly said.
He added: “Alongside builds, it’s imperative that the Council is resourced to complete whatever works are necessary when properties become available. We need more money and staff to do these works – a fair allocation of national resources. It’s time our government representatives stood up for us in Kildare."
