Kildare County Council has withdrawn a closure notice it issued against Ryevale House in Leixlip over fire safety concerns.
The property encompasses the main house, a protected structure formerly belonging to the late architect Sam Stephenson, and is home to 52 women, as well as a coach house where another 45 women reside.
According to court documents obtained by The Sunday Independent, a business led by a painter and decorator filed a legal challenge to prevent the council from shutting down Ryevale House.
Cllr Joe Neville told Kfm that the owner of the House has allegedly contravened planning laws.
He also provided details about the pending court case surrounding the property.
He said questions need to be asked about who is making money from these developments.
He said the Department of Integration is rewarding a developer allegedly contravening Kildare County Council's planning laws.
"We can't cut corners. We end up paying for them after," he said.
Local residents have vehemently opposed the development, asserting that it violates planning laws mandating permission for alterations to a protected structure.
