The OPW is calling on local community groups to "reconsider their protocols".

The OPW says "unless there is more progress made and OPW staff are allowed to safely access their workplace at Castletown, this will result in the House and Estate being forced to close" on safety grounds.

The OPW is calling on local community groups to "reconsider their protocols and allow for OPW staff, which along with third-party contractors, are essential to the overall maintenance and upkeep of the House and Estate."

On 'Kildare Today', Minister of State with Responsibility for the OPW Patrick O'Donovan, alleged that members of staff were being "intimidated".

Meanwhile, Chair of the SaveCastletown group, Kevin Mullen, has refuted the claims made by the Minister.
