There are also reports that the opening has been pushed back again until 2026

The Government's being called on to clarify when the new National Children's Hospital will be open to patients.

The date has changed 14 times since planning permission was granted in 2016, with reports now saying the official opening has been pushed back again until 2026.

There's also further controversy about the cost, with the builders are looking for an extra 100 million euro.

BAM construction, with its HQ based in Kill, are now asking for €853m in construction costs.

The Department of Health confirmed the value of the claims yesterday, although there is no mention of the potential financial risk to the project in a briefing document for new Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill.

Reported by the Irish Independent, a spokesman for BAM yesterday declined to say what the value of the claims was, adding: “The total number and overall value are commercially sensitive.”

However, Tánaiste Simon Harris is insisting the new hospital remains on track.
