Dublin City and County maintain their position as the frontrunner in disposable income per person, significantly surpassing the state average.
With the largest disposable income in the nation, Dublin residents boast an average of €27,958 per person, marking a 14.7% increase from the state average for 2021 and marking the fourth consecutive year of growth.
Following Dublin, Limerick emerges as the next highest earner, with an estimated disposable income of €25,190 per person.
While still above the state average by 3.3%, Limerick experienced a marginal decrease of 0.2% from the previous year.
In contrast, Wicklow witnessed a 3% drop in disposable income from 2020 to 2021, yet it remains 1.3% above the state average.
Smaller counties such as Carlow, Louth, and Westmeath are seeing their disposable incomes rise to around the state average. Social benefits play a significant role in contributing to this rise, as depicted in the data.
However, Donegal continues to face economic challenges, maintaining its position as the poorest county in terms of disposable income per capita, with €19,253 per person, representing a 21% deficit from the state average.
Notably, only Galway and Westmeath among the counties with incomes below the state average have seen an increase from 2020 to 2021 relative to the national average.
