Kildare's Colourful History Unveiled: 'The Colour of Kildare' Book Launches With Stunning Visuals Of Life In The County

Co-author James Durney, speaking on Kildare today, highlighted key aspects of the book.

Local historians have unveiled an innovative publication titled "The Colour of Kildare," featuring colorised photographs spanning from 1913 to 1923.

This project marks the culmination of the Co. Kildare Decade of Commemorations Committee's efforts, aiming to establish a lasting repository of research and cultural artifacts for future generations.

Co-author James Durney, speaking on Kildare today, highlighted key aspects of the book.

It showcases historical Irish figures like Éamon de Valera alongside the 1919 Kildare football championship team, presented through vividly coloured photographs.

Durney emphasised the book's focus on social events across the county rather than solely on political upheaval and conflict.

"We did not want to produce it as a book about political turmoil, war and death, it a social book about events that were happening," he said.

The book launch is scheduled for Friday at 7 pm in the foyer of the Riverbank Arts Centre, featuring an open press session with authors James Durney, Mario Corrigan, and John O’Byrne.

Copies are currently available at all local bookstores throughout Kildare.
