Kildare Woman Develops Tool To Report And Address Commonplace Sexual Harassment

Emily O'Gorman, from Calverstown, said Reportd aims to address the everyday, commonplace harassment that goes unreported.

A Kildare woman has set up a website to facilitate the anonymous reporting of sexual harassment.

Emily O'Gorman, from Calverstown, said Reportd aims to address the "everyday, commonplace harassment that, according data, goes unreported 94% of the time".

She said the chronic under-reporting not only normalises such behavior but also leaves a significant gap in real-time data, with current statistics relying on nationwide surveys conducted every decade.

Reportd's broader mission is informed by the "Pyramid of Sexism" model, which illustrates that extreme acts of violence, rape, and femicide stem from unchecked attitudes and cultural beliefs that trivialise sexual harassment.

According to Emily, by reducing the prevalence of everyday sexual harassment, it is possible to decrease the number of individuals who escalate to more serious violent behaviours.
