Kildare is among the lowest-funded counties in the latest national allocation for domestic and sexual violence services.
Figures show the county received just €10,400, through a single provider, as part of a €3.2 million funding package announced for 2025.
By contrast, several counties received six-figure allocations, with some securing funding for multiple services.
Kildare had one of the higher rates of domestic abuse calls to Gardaí last year, at 13.28 per 1,000 people – above the national average.
Kildare ranked in the top half of the country’s Garda divisions, with higher reporting levels than Carlow, Meath and Wicklow.
A total of €10,400 will be allocated to Kildare's Teach Tearmainn Housing Association, out of a national funding package of €3.2 million for 67 services across the country.
Funding was allocated across the following categories of service:
- €1,440,487.17 (46%) to domestic violence services
- €1,302,818.38 (42%) to sexual violence services
- €377,185.00 (12%) to perpetrator programme specific services
- €79,509.45 allocated as once-off in-year funding.
The funding comes at a time when more than 1,600 reports of domestic violence were made nationally during Christmas week last year.
