Patricia Ryan says residents in Monasterevin and Portarlington being unable to get an answer when they called the Garda station
A Kildare South TD says a community policing model should be re-introduced in to the region.
Patricia Ryan was speaking in Leinster House during a debate on the Garda Siochana (Functions and Operational Areas) Bill.
She has received "reports this week of residents in Monasterevin and Portarlington being unable to get an answer when they called the Garda station there despite the fact that the phone is supposed to be diverted to Kildare town and Portlaoise Garda stations, respectively, when the station is unattended."
This, she says, "leaves residents vulnerable.".
Speaking to Kildare Today, the Sinn Féin TD says this is not the fault of An Garda Siochana.
Deputy Ryan joined Ciara Noble on Tuesday's edition of the programme
