The Northern Lights - or Aurora Borealis - have been visible all over Ireland, and there is a chance they may be visible tonight

Kildare's sky was lit up last night with a spectacular view of the most powerful solar storm that has hit Earth in over twenty years.

The Northern Lights - or Aurora Borealis - have been visible all over Ireland.

Celestial light shows from Tasmania made their way over to Ireland, and people across Kildare and the country have been posting their photos of the view on social media.

The first of several coronal mass ejections (CMEs) - expulsions of plasma and magnetic fields from the Sun - came just after 5pm Irish time.

The Northern Lights may also be visible tonight.
