Kildare Shines In EPA Review As Pollution And Dumping Crackdown Urged Nationwide

For the second year in a row, Kildare County Council was the only local authority that achieved a strong or excellent score across all 20 NEPs.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has criticised councils for inadequate enforcement of pollution rules, with a particular focus on water, air, and noise.

Despite improvements in waste enforcement, farm inspections and solid fuel checks remain insufficient.

Kildare County Council was among eight local authorities scoring "strong" or "excellent" in most of the EPA’s 20 National Enforcement Priorities (NEPs).

NEPs come under four themes: water, waste, air and noise, and governance processes.

Local authorities in Westmeath, Galway City, Waterford, Wexford, Sligo and Kilkenny performed poorly.
