Kildare North TD Catherine Murphy Says The Soc Dems Are Open To Coalition With Any Party Depending On Policies

The national executive of the Social Democrats is expected to meet on Thursday

The national executive of the Social Democrats is expected to meet tonight to discuss the leadership election process.

It comes after co-leaders, Róisín Shortall and Catherine Murphy, decided to call it a day.

Both women have confirmed that they are remaining on as TDs.

In a Kfm exclusive interview on Thursday morning's Kildare Today programme, Social Democrats Co- Leader & Kildare North TD Catherine Murphy ruled out a merger with the Labour Party.

However, she said the Social Democrats are open to coalition with any party depending on policies.

"We will be open to have those discussions," she said.

Deputy Murphy said the aim of her party was always and will continue to be, to offer choice and change into the next election doing so by handing the reigns to the next generation.

The party has four other deputies but none has yet declared their intentions.
