Newbridge Teen Freya Healy Shines In Ireland's First TY Football Course For Girls

Fingal County Council has run the course for boys since 2016, in partnership with the Football Association of Ireland (FAI).

A group of teenage girls has become the first in Ireland to complete a Transition Year (TY) football course, designed to boost youth participation in sport.

This year, 25 girls joined the programme, which combines football training and education at the FAI centre in Abbotstown.

Freya Healy from Newbridge, one of the participants, praised the opportunity to coach in primary schools.

The course has already seen success, with Healy being called into the international senior team.

Gerry Reardon of Fingal County Council highlighted the program's role in inspiring youth to stay engaged in sports.
