Kildare County Council Will Switch To Electric Vehicles As Part Of Decarbonisation Strategy

KCC said it's committed to a reduction in carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.

Kildare County Council said it will be making the switch to electric vehicles as part of its decarbonisation strategy.

The news was confirmed in response to a question by Labour Cllr Mark Leigh, who asked the council to confirm if it plans to replace it’s existing work vehicles in the municipal district with electric vehicles.

KCC said it's committed to a reduction in carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.

"In that context we are in the process of drafting a decarbonisation strategy for our fleet based on the paradigm of Avoid, Shift, Improve.

"Avoid will entail looking at our journeys and whether we need to make them.

"Shift will encompass moving to more sustainable means of transport and this will include the appropriate use of electric vehicles.

"Improve will include looking at operational efficiencies," it added.

KCC plans to have the strategy complete by the end of 2023, but insisted it will be continuing to look for opportunities to decarbonise as the strategy is developing.
