It says grave surrounds, fences, border, planters, ornaments, statues, gravel and stones are not permitted.

A sign erected by Kildare County Council outside a public cemetery in recent days has caused some distress.

The sign, at Mainham Cemetery, Clane, says grave surrounds, fences, border, planters, ornaments, statues, gravel and stones are not permitted.

The council reserves the right to remove any items.

The sign also indicates that the cemetery is a lawn cemetery, however, those with loved ones buried there say it has never been managed in that way.

Anne Maleady lives in Clane and has been speaking to Kildare Today.

A statement on the matter is being sought of Kildare County Council.

Anne Maleady joined Eoin Beatty on Wednesday's edition of the programme
