A leading voice in animal welfare has condemned the proposed ban on XL bullies, likening it to "mass murder."
Martina Kenny of Moyvalley-based My Lovely Horse Rescue has voiced strong opposition to the proposed ban on XL bullies.
She said while these dogs should be registered and their training documented, an outright ban is both impractical and inhumane.
"XL bullies are being abandoned every day, and there is no place for them now in rescues," Kenny stated.
She questioned the government's approach to addressing the issue, asking, "How does the Government think we're going to actually sort this problem out?"
Kenny also highlighted another aspect of the proposal - the prohibition on rehoming.
"It seems to say 'no rehoming,' so does that mean that rescues can't rehome them? Even though we would have them neutered, registered with a certificate, proof of training," she said.
