Kildare Among Top Counties For Speeding Fines As Speed Cameras Operate At A Loss

Naas accounted for €1.7 million, followed by the Kildare Town (€591,520) and Leixlip (€197,040).

Kildare has been named the fourth highest county in Ireland for speeding fines, with speed vans collecting more than €2.5 million in the past 2 and a half years.

Naas accounted for €1.7 million, followed by Kildare Town (€591,520) and Leixlip (€197,040).

Nationally, fines from speed vans brought in €32 million - but Gardaí paid €44 million to private operators, meaning speed cameras are operating at a loss.

Ireland South MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú is calling for vans to be moved to accident black spots and rural roads, where speeding is linked to rising fatalities.
