Kildare ranks third in the country for the number of children enrolled in ECCE
Kildare has one of the highest levels of participation in the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programme, ranking third in the country for the number of children enrolled and fourth for the number of providers.
Figures for the 2024/2025 year show that 6,082 children are in ECCE places across 172 providers in the county.
Meanwhile, a Parliamentary Question raised by Deputy Mark Wall revealed that 21% of Kildare’s 184 childcare providers are based in rural areas, highlighting the challenges of early years education access outside urban centres.
Deputy Wall says he will continue "to push for greater support for childcare services in Kildare, particularly in rural communities".
