Kildare Among Top Counties for Animal Welfare Complaints – New Figures
Animal welfare complaints in Kildare remain among the highest in the State, new figures show.
Data released by Minister for Agriculture and Kildare South TD Martin Heydon confirms Kildare recorded 153 welfare complaints through the Department’s helpline in 2024 - the fourth-highest figure in the country.
Only Dublin, Galway and Cork recorded more.
Between January and the end of October this year, Kildare has logged 109 complaints.
While that is lower than last year’s total at the same point, the county remains one of the highest reporters nationally.
Minister Heydon said more than 200 prosecutions have been secured under the Animal Health and Welfare Act since 2014, and that the Department, Gardaí and local authorities all have powers to pursue cases.
He said all allegations are investigated but he does not comment on individual cases.
