Kildare Among Slowest And Most Expensive Counties For Re-letting Social Housing

On average, it took 53 weeks to re-tenant a vacant home in 2024 at a cost of more than €50,000 per unit - compared to a national average of 35 weeks and €31,000.

Kildare County Council has come under pressure following the release of the latest national performance report, which highlights serious shortcomings in the county’s housing turnaround.

The rate of long-term homeless adults (in emergency accommodation for six months or more) in Kildare last year was 54.89 per cent of the total homeless adults in emergency accommodation, slightly below the national average of 59.43 per cent.

Kildare, according to the 2024 National Oversight And Audit Commission report, is one of the slowest and most expensive counties in the country when it comes to re-letting social housing.
