The owner of Kildangan Stud, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has been ordered to pay more than €650m to settle a custody battle with his ex-wife, Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, over their two children.
The Irish Independent reports, the Dubai ruler must provide the settlement to his ex-wife amid 'grave risk' to her safety.
Princess Haya, an accomplished horse rider, became the second official wife of the ruler in 2004.
The pair divorced in 2019 following a court battle in which she applied for the wardship of their two children.
One of the sheikh’s other daughters, Princess Latifa, had accused him of holding her hostage and taking her back to Dubai against her will.
The sheikh is a powerful figure in Irish horse racing and is also one of Ireland’s biggest landowners.
The 72-year-old billionaire Dubai ruler and vice-president of the United Arab Emirates bought Kildangan in 1986, and the Kildare stud farm is just part of his extensive horse-breeding operations.
His Darley stud group is one of the world’s biggest producers of champion horses.
The family holdings amount to more than 6,000 acres spread across counties Kildare, Meath and Tipperary.
With his Irish base at Kildangan Stud, the sheikh owns 4,500 acres, while Hamdan had a 1,500-acre holding.
