Kilcullen To Newbridge Bus Service To Continue

NTA agree interim solution

The National Transport Authority have agreed an interim solution to continue the local bus service between Kilcullen and Newbridge.

It follows the decision by JJ Kavanagh to cease their 'local link' 129 route.

The new service will start on Monday and will run between 7:00 am and 10:30 am and 2:30 pm to 7pm.

The NTA will now explore ways to ensure the service continues on a permanent basis.

Welcoming the news, Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister Martin Heydon says “This route is the only form of public transport currently operating between Kilcullen and Newbridge and the villages along that route. Many people depend on this service for getting to and from work, to medical appointments and for shopping. It is an essential link between Kilcullen and Newbridge.

“While we welcome this interim solution confirmed today, both myself and Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer will continue to work with the NTA to secure a more permanent solution and an expansion into a seven day service with evening options in the future"

Fianna Fáil Senator Fiona O'Loughlin says "This is really good news for all those who use this service- connectivity by public transport is hugely important for our towns and communities. I raised this in the Seanad during the week, and am really pleased that the NTA have responded so quickly."
