Professor Teresa Lambe has been awarded a Presidential Distinguished Service Award for Irish Abroad.
The Kilcullen native co-developed the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine - overseeing studies & trials of the vaccine & its immune response.
Last year, the former Cross & Passion student was appointed an Honourary Officer of the Order of the British Empire, for services to science & public health.
Prof. Lambe, an alumni of UCD, also received an Alumni Award in Science from the University last year.
Most Irish residents who received an Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine were over the age of 55.
At the end of 2021, 182 countries had administered the vaccine.
At her former secondary school, a Teresa Lambe Bursary Fund was launched last year.
The bursary's intention is to encourage girls at the school to study STEM subjects at third level.
