Survivors of physical abuse in schools are urging the Government to expand the statutory inquiry into historical sexual abuse to also cover instances of corporal punishment.
In September, the Government initiated a Commission of Investigation following a Scoping Inquiry.
However, it has come to light that some individuals who reported their experiences of alleged physical abuse were told that their cases did not fall within the inquiry's scope.

Tonight, RTÉ will air a documentary titled "Leathered," which explores the use of corporal punishment in Irish schools since the mid-20th century.
The documentary delves into how the alleged abuses in both religious and secular schools have affected former students across the country.
Figures released by the Department of Education to RTÉ’s Documentary team show that between 1962 and 1982, just 108 allegations involving physical abuse by teachers were recorded by the Department.
In 1982, Corporal punishment in schools was banned by way of Ministerial instrument.
However, nine allegations were recorded after the ban was implemented.
