Kildare County Council says a controversial sign erected outside Mainham Cemetery in Clane does not apply to the existing burial ground.
The sign says grave surrounds, fences, border, planters, ornaments, statues, gravel and stones are not permitted.
The council reserves the right to remove any items.
The sign also indicates that the cemetery is a lawn cemetery, however, those with loved ones buried there say it has never been managed in that way.
KCC has issued this statement to Kfm Radio: "The new signage which has been erected in Mainham Cemetary (sic) is intended for the newer (unused) part of the cemetery, and has been done at the request of the local cemetery committee.
Existing grave surrounds, borders etc will not be impacted."
Social Democrats Clane Maynooth MD Cllr., Aidan Farrelly, has been speaking to Kildare Today.
