An Bord Pleanala granted permission for the project to Kilsaran in early June.

There are calls for a review of An Bord Pleanala's decision to grant permission for a quarry in Ballyshannon.

The national planning authority granted permission, on appeal, to Kilsaran for the extraction of 3 million tonnes of sand and gravel from the Racefield site.

Kildare County Council refused permission for the project in November 2019 - the firm subsequently referred it to ABP.

Over 200 objects were lodged from local people and organisations.

The Fine Gael group of councillors on Kildare County Council, Ivan Keatley, Tracey O’Dwyer, Peggy O’Dwyer,Kevin Duffyand Mark Stafford, want the local authority to "review" the decision.

Furthermore, they want KCC to "outline to the members what if any next steps will the Council be taking on the decision and/or the enforcement of the specified conditions."

The motion will be debated at today's monthly meeting of the council.
