A horse believed to have been charged into members of the Public Order Unit during violent clashes in Citywest this week has been found collapsed on a field and is now receiving emergency veterinary care, according to My Lovely Horse Rescue.
Gardaí in Tallaght called the Moyvalley-based rescue organisation earlier today after the animal was discovered on the ground, unable to stand and suspected of suffering from colic.
A Garda with horse-handling experience managed to get the animal back on its feet before rescue teams arrived.
The charity says the horse was weak and barely able to walk.
The horse also has serious leg wounds believed to have been caused by ill-fitted straps, along with painful sores in the mouth caused by a bit.
The horse is believed to be the same animal filmed being driven into members of the Garda force during the recent Citywest riots.
The horse is undergoing veterinary care.
