On plans for Kildare, she said female drivers "are still a minority" but she hopes the service will expand to the county.

A new women-focused taxi service where passengers can request female drivers is set to launch in the capital this month.

LadyCab will feature an enhanced safety system designed to protect both drivers and passengers.

Male drivers who meet rigorous standards and embrace a safety-first culture will also be part of the team.

CEO and founder, Emanuela Negura told Kildare Today that drivers are eager to sign up.

In it, Negura details how she was attacked by a male passenger.

"I was attacked on a Saturday night last year in July in the city centre by a male passenger, who tried to get in my car. I was parked. He tried to get in, but luckily the door was locked. He tried to smash my window. He grabbed me by the neck and he hit me."

She added: "It was not even dark. I realised we are so exposed as taxi drivers to the dangers of Dublin’s nightlife."

She said her service will complement existing services.
