Genetics Is A Big Driver Of Obesity, According To Newbridge GP

It comes as the World Health Organisation Warns Of Obesity "Epidemic"

People who are overweight feel judged, according to a Newbridge GP.

Dr. Brendan O' Shea says a particular cohort of the population are more likely to  eat more and  their metabolism handles it differently.

He says many people gain weight because of genetics.

However, the World Health Organisation's warning obesity is at "epidemic proportions" across Europe.

It also suggests the Covid pandemic's made things worse, with fewer people doing exercise and more of us eating fatty and sugary foods.

An epidemic of obesity has reached Ireland, according to a health professional.

The World Health Organisation study shows being overweight now causes an estimated 1.2 million deaths every year across the continent.
