An Garda Síochána has also issued a reminder on the correct use of hard shoulders
This morning Naas Gardaí stopped three vehicles travelling at speed up the hard shoulder on the N7, undertaking slow-moving traffic.
Driving on the hard shoulder is an offence in Ireland, except in emergencies or specific situations.
In all three instances, the drivers of the vehicles were issued with a fixed charge penalty notice.
Gardaí issued the following advice on their Facebook page in relation to the correct use of hard shoulders:
1. Emergencies Only: The hard shoulder is meant for breakdowns or emergencies. If you need to stop, turn on your hazard lights, exit the vehicle safely, and wait behind the barrier.
2. Illegal Use: Driving on the hard shoulder to overtake or bypass traffic is an offence and can result in penalties
3. Safety First: If you must stop, ensure your vehicle is visible, and avoid standing near traffic. Use emergency roadside phones to call for help if needed.
