48 year old 'Babs' Connolly was assaulted in Athlone on Saturday night.
The funeral takes place later today of a man who died following a fatal assault in Athlone over the weekend.
Paul Connolly died from injuries he sustained in the assault in the early hours of Saturday morning. He'd been on a stag night out.
Mr. Connolly's funeral Mass will be held this afternoon at 3 O'Clock in St Mary's Church, Edenderry, followed by burial in St Mary's Cemetery.
48 year old 'Babs' Connolly is thought to have broken away from the stag group before he was assaulted on Church Street in Athlone in what's been described as an "unprovoked assault".
Two men appeared in court on Sunday charged with violent disorder and assault.
35 year old Sean Munnelly or Irishtown, Athlone and 18 year old David Higgins with an address at St Paul’s Terrace, Athlone were remanded in custody to appear before Mullingar District Court again on Thursday.
