The prisoner escaped Loughan House Open Prison in Cavan on October 7th
A manhunt for a criminal involved in a crime spree after escaping an open prison ended on Sunday night after he was arrested following a high-speed Garda chase in which a patrol car was rammed, according to The Irish Independent.
Ken Foy and Robin Schiller's article says that the 48-year-old, who has over 100 previous convictions, including being unlawfully at large from custody, escaped from Loughan House open prison in Cavan on the 7th of October.
He was caught by officers late on Sunday night after the stolen car he was travelling in failed to stop for Gardaí and rammed a patrol car in Ardee, Co Louth.
The criminal then drove the wrong way down a road on the Louth/Meath border hoping that he would not be pursued by Gardaí.
The stolen car was then abandoned car in Slane, Co Meath and he fled on foot.
When Gardaí caught up with him he initially resisted arrest.
A quantity of suspected crack cocaine was found in the stolen car.
He is now being detained in Navan Garda Station.
Last week, Kildare Gardaí were alerted to a robbery at a shop in Maynooth, where staff were threatened by an individual holding a knife.
Gardaí believe that the violent criminal was involved in this incident, as well as others around the country.
