Energy Strain Threatens Kildare's Growth As Major Industries Face Grid Hurdles

Kildare's major industries, including Intel, face hurdles due to strained electricity infrastructure - potentially hindering expansion plans.

The local Chamber of Commerce has warned of potential growth setbacks, urging government intervention.

CEO of Kildare Chamber, Sinead Ronan, told Kfm that there are concerns among members regarding energy capacity across the county, intensifying calls for action to address grid constraints and facilitate economic growth.

Ronan said Eirgrid has reached its capacity and that, coupled with challenges in the planning system, could delay new projects by up to four years.

She said businesses are sounding the alarm now so Kildare's competitive edge is not impacted in the future.
