Kildare County Council has approved an extension for planning permission for a new private cemetery in Bodenstown, Kildare, which will feature 1,448 burial plots.

The starting price for a plot is €5,000, which will get you a ‘standard plot’, followed by a ‘premium plot’ from €7,500 and then to a ‘gold plot’ from €10,000.
A ‘platinum plot’ is the most expensive, starting from €12,500, which is the closest plot to Wolfe Tone.
The Wolfe Tone cemetery, situated near Sallins, opened for a pre-sale period until July 31 of this year, offering people the chance to secure a burial plot close to the historic site where Tone, a leader of the 1798 rebellion, is buried in the existing Bodenstown graveyard.
Amendoeira Developments Ltd, based in Clane, first received planning permission for the cemetery in 2018.
This marks the second time the company has sought an extension for their planning approval, which Kildare County Council has now granted.
The council confirmed that the extension was given because they are confident the development will be completed within a reasonable timeframe.
Work must be completed by September 29, 2025.
The company director is Mr. Seamus McCarthy, who has been in the role since 2014.
Concerns had been raised by locals, who say there are already limited spaces in Bodenstown Graveyard.
McCarthy recently told Kfm that the purpose of the private cemetery serves all people, and there is a commercial reality to it as people overseas can bury a loved one in the Wolfe Tone Private Cemetery.
