The move by the Department has been welcomed by Fianna Fail TD Sean O'Fearghaíl
A new unauthorised encampment was set up on the Curragh Plains over the weekend.
However, this morning, the Department of Defence was in touch with the Chief State Solicitor's Office to instigate urgent legal action against the unauthorised campers.
The move by the Department has been welcomed by Fianna Fail TD for Kildare South Sean O'Fearghaíl, however, he says "it's not realistic to expect that every time caravans appear the State would be obliged to resort to legal action".
Deputy O'Fearghaíl has written to Tanaiste and Minister for Defence Simon Harris urging early implementation of a new management plan for the Curragh, as set out in the programme for Government.
Last year there were 25 separate illegal encampments set up on the Curragh and it costs around €200,000 a year to clean up after the encampments.
