Debating Assisted Dying On Kildare Today: Is It A Matter Of Compassion Or Concern?

An Oireachtas Committee on Assisted Dying has been meeting this week to discuss the topic.

People should not have to travel abroad in secret to avail of assisted dying.

Speaking on Kildare Today this morning, Janie Lazar, Chair of End of Life Ireland, said giving people who are terminally ill control over when they can die is a form of "kindness".

However, Independent Senator Ronan Mullen said people who feel like a burden may opt for assisted dying.

He said euthanasia has become a "runaway" train that could lead to people availing of assisted dying for issues around mental health.

An Oireachtas Committee on Assisted Dying has been meeting this week to discuss the topic.
