Over forty hares have been killed by aircraft in Dublin airport over the past three years

The DAA conduct catch-and-release operations to relocate hares to Kildare and Wicklow.

According to TheJournal, over forty hares have been killed by aircraft in Dublin airport in the past three years, as well as 278 bird strikes.

Under license approved by the National Parks and Wildlife Service, Dublin Airport is licensed to capture the hares that roam the airport grounds, including carparks and runways.

A total of 12 hares were captured and released in Kildare and Wicklow during the first two months of 2025.

Each catch-and-release operation costs around €1,500, according to documents released by DAA.
