Curragh Encampments Must Be Cleared By 1pm On Friday, High Court Orders

Mr Justice Brian Cregan ruled that all caravans, cars, and other vehicles, including those on horse training areas linked to the Curragh Racecourse, must be removed by 1pm this Friday.

The Minister for Defence has secured High Court orders to remove dozens of caravans from Department of Defence land at the Curragh.

Some caravans are also near Defence Forces firing ranges, disrupting training exercises.

According to the Irish Times, in an affidavit, Eoin McDonnell, a senior department official, said "mountains of rubbish" have been left by the groups.

Last year there were 25 separate illegal encampments set up on the Curragh and it cost almost €200,000 to clean up.

Kfm recently reported how the Department of Defence was in touch with the Chief State Solicitor's Office to instigate legal action against the unauthorised campers.
