Jake's Law can only be implemented upon creation of new by-laws

Councillors want to know if Jake's Law will be automatically introduced to Athy, on completion of the county-wide speed limit review.

Jake's Law would require speed limits of 20 km/h and 30 km/h in home zones and slow zones

The review is underway, and is  examining the limits on all roads in the county under KCC's auspices.

The council held a public consultation on the review, finishing last month,  and received 290 submissions.

Jake's Law can only be implemented upon creation of new by-laws, which will be the culmination of the speed limit review.

Fianna Fáil Cllr., Brian Dooley, wants clarity how how Jake's Law will be imposed.

His motion comes before the October meeting of the Athy MD today.
