The council said such a move would be contrary to the Climate Action Plan
Calls have been made to the council to introduce free lunch time parking between 1pm and 2pm in the town of Athy have been dampened.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Brian Dooley made the request at a recent Municipal District meeting.
The council has said the Roads Department would not be in agreement to extend free parking in Athy due to significant reduced revenue.
It also indicated that there is already free parking from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday to Friday in Catherine McCauley car park and Meeting Lane car park, Athy.
The council also said that extending free parking would be contrary to the Climate Action Plan 2023.
