Council Engineer Critical Over Continued Use Of Sallins Ramp Road Deemed "Not Fit" For Vehicles

Council engineers said councillors voted to keep the ramp open - going against advice of the executive.

A Kildare County Council engineer has warned that that the Sallins Ramp Road exit onto the L2005 near Sallins Canal Bridge is not fit for the purpose of carrying "motorised vehicles", despite councillors choosing to keep it open.

It comes as Cllr Anne Breen (Lab) called for a stop sign and traffic-calming at the Ramp Road exit.

But a senior engineer said speeding isn’t the main problem.

He said the ramp’s steep gradient and structure make it unfit for motor traffic and block safe crossing for wheelchair users and older pedestrians.

"Proposals for the Sallins Village Active Travel Scheme are being developed, and this scheme will include amendments to the ramp, similar to those proposed previously. Details of these amendments are not available at this time," a senior engineer said.
